Cameron Stays Perfect at Home

LAWTON, Okla. – Katie King's career night leads Cameron to a 74-66 win over St. Edward's inside the Aggie Gym on Monday evening to stay perfect at home.

King scored a career-high, game-high 22 points with seven assists, four rebounds, and four steals.

The Aggies move to .500 in the Lone Star Conference with the win at 2-2 and 4-5 overall. CU will travel to Weatherford, Okla., to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State at 5:30 pm in the final non-conference game of the season.

Korie Allensworth scored 14 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the floor with 3-for-4 from deep and 3-of-4 at the charity stripe. Alannah Gillespie scored eight points, Karley Miller scored six, Kailyn Lay, LaKya Leslie, and Kiara Lovings added five points, Kloe Heidebrecht scored three, Taliyah Johnson, Mikayla Peterson, and Alena Wilson added two points.


King dished out a team-high seven assists, Allensworth and Miller had two assists, and Heidebrecht, Lay, Peterson, and Wilson added one.

Leslie led the Black-and-Gold on the boards with seven rebounds, Allensworth and Miller grabbed six boards, Heidebrecht, King, and Lay pulled in four, Lovings added three, Wilson snagged two, and Gillespie and Johnson had one rebound.

King swiped four steals, Wilson grabbed three, Lay added two, and Allensworth, Heidebrecht, and Lovings had one.

King would record the first two points of the game, knocking down two free throws. SEU would make three from beyond the arc, but CU would answer with two of their own to keep it close at 9-8 in favor of the visitors. St. Edward's would hold an 11-8 lead at the midway point of the opening frame. Cameron would tie the game at 13-13 on a Gillespie three ball with 3:38 to play. The Aggies would close the first on a 9-3 run to take a 19-16 lead.

The Hilltoppers would come out in the second quarter on a 7-3 run to take the lead at 23-22. The Black-and-Gold came roaring back with a 15-4 run, building a 10-point lead at 37-27 with just under three minutes until the half. SEU closed the quarter with a 9-5 advantage to cut the Aggies' lead to six at the break, at 42-36.

St. Edward's opened the second half with a 9-0 run to take a three-point lead at 45-42. Cameron would chip away and retake the lead at 50-49 with 4:27 to play on a jumper by Gillespie. Lovings would be fouled on a three, knocking down all three free throws to give the Aggies the lead for good at the 2:29 mark of the third quarter, which helped CU close on a 6-1 run to take a 59-56 lead into the final frame.

The Aggies would stretch their lead to seven points after two King free throws would make the score 65-58. SEU would trim the score to within three at 65-62, with six minutes and 57 seconds to play. Neither team would make a shot from the floor over the final three minutes of play. King would hit two shots from the charity stripe to add the final points and give Cameron a 74-66 win.
