CU ready for home opener against UCO

LAWTON, Okla. – Aggie nation will get their first look at the 2018-19 Cameron University women's basketball team on Tuesday as they welcome in Central Oklahoma for their home opener.

Starting 5:
1. Cameron's Maighan Hedge had one of the program's best freshman debuts ever on Friday as she scored 27 points on 10-12 shooting from the field and 5-6 from the three-point line.
2. Natalie Halbleib returned after missing all of last season and recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds against the Jets.
3. Central Oklahoma went 2-0 in their opening weekend, but scored just 64 points against Northwestern Oklahoma State and 59 against East Central, while shooting just 37 percent for the two game span.
4. Shatoyo Bryson averaged 13 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 3.5 steals during the team's opening weekend.
5. This will be the 75th time in program history that these two teams have faced each other with UCO owning a 44-30 record over the Aggies; CU has lost 13 straight to the Bronchos.

About the Aggies:
Cameron is 1-1 on the young season, winning 80-74 in their opener against Newman and falling 86-75 to Oklahoma Christian in their second game. CU averages 78 points per contest and is shooting 41.3 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from three, and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. They also average 43 rebounds, 14 assists, 5.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per contest.

Hedge leads the team with 23 points per contest, after her 27 point debut followed by a 19-point performance against OC. She is shooting 63 percent from the field and 54.3 percent from the perimeter. Additionally, Halbleib (12.5), Ava Battese (12), and Parfitt McNair (11.5) are all scoring in double-figures. Halbleib, McNair and Lejha Smith all lead the team with 6.5 rebounds per contest, while freshman Whitney Outon averages six boards.

Scouting the Bronchos:
Central Oklahoma is 2-0 after beating NWOSU 64-53 and ECU 59-55 as part of the MIAA/GAC Crossover Challenge this past weekend. They average just 61.5 points per game while giving up just 54 to their opponents. As a team, the Bronchos are shooting 23.8 percent from the perimeter and 62 percent from the charity stripe. They have also limited their opposition by averaging 9.5 steals and 4.0 blocks per contest.

Bryson's 17-point performance against the Rangers has her scoring 13 points per game, while Ireon Smith is averaging 11 points thanks to a 16-point outing against the Tigers. They both also lead the team with 6.5 rebounds per contest.

Up Next:
Cameron will be back at home next Monday, Nov. 19 as they host Emporia State before going on the road to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and then returning home to play Harding on Saturday, Nov. 24.
