Aggies face top-ranked Saint Leo in NCAA Sweet-16

LAWTON – Cameron will be making their fourth straight trip to the NCAA National Championship this Wednesday but will have the daunting task of being seeded against No. 1 Saint Leo in Denver, Colo.

The Aggies made it to the Elite-8 last season for the first time beating Mercyhurst 5-0 in their fifth overall appearance in the National Championships.  Overall this is the 21st NCAA postseason trip for CU which is tied for fifth most in NCAA Division II men's tennis, and they are 12-20 in the postseason.

Live Scoring

This will be the first meeting between the Aggies and Lions in the NCAA Tournament but they have seen each other this season.   Both teams played in Denver at the same tournament, with the Lions facing Metro State, Hawai'i Pacific, and Midwestern State.    Saint Leo would see their only loss of the season coming in Denver at the hands of Hawai'i Pacific and they hold a 24-1 overall record prior to their dual with the Aggies.   Individually, the Lions have three singles players ranked inside the top-19 and two doubles teams ranked in the top-20, including the nation's top pairing of Alberto Barros and Alex Theiler who are 23-2 this season.

Cameron (19-6) has senior Dennis Merdan who is ranked No. 45 in the National Singles Poll with three others ranked in the top-20 in the South Central Region.  In doubles, CU has Felipe Oyarzun and Mateo Velasco placed at No. 6 along with Bruno Babic and Vinicius Santos at No. 8 in the South Central Region.

Should the Aggies get past the Lions in the opening round, they will face the winner of Northwest Missouri State and UC San Diego on Thursday at 2 p.m.
