Drew Richards named as Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach

LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron University men's basketball coach Nate Gamet has announced the addition of Drew Richards to the Aggie basketball program as the new assistant coach.

"I am very excited to have Coach Richards on the staff here at Cameron University," said Gamet. "He has experienced success wherever he has been which we plan on continuing during his tenure here at Cameron."

"I feel that Drew's playing experience both at Division I and professionally will help to further expand opportunities in recruiting for the upcoming years."

Richards comes to Cameron following a two year stint as the assistant men's basketball coach at Missouri State University-West Plains. While with the Grizzlies, Richards helped guide the team consecutive 22-10 seasons and two NJCAA Region XVI Tournament appearances.

A four-year letterman at NCAA Division-I, Missouri State, Richards was part of three National Invitational Tournament (NIT) teams, and ranks third all-time in blocked shots and is tenth in games played. In 2009, Richards played professionally in Germany with the Ehingen Steeples where he finished ninth in the league in blocked shots and in the top-12 in rebounds per game.

Richards is a native of Rogersville, Missouri and played at Logan-Rogersville High School (LRHS). He was a four-year letterman, leading the Wildcats to a combined record of 53-5 during his junior and senior seasons as captain.

The Cameron men's basketball team will open the 2013-14 season with the Region Classic at the Aggie Gym on November 8-9 hosting Oklahoma Panhandle State and UT-Permian Basin.
