
Aggies picked sixth in LSC preseason poll
July 31, 2012 LAWTON, Okla. -- The Lone Star Conference announced today in San Antonio, Texas that Cameron is placed sixth in this year's volleyball preseason awards with a total of 130 points. This is up five spots from where they were selected last year at this time.West Texas A&M received 291 points and 21 first place votes and is the top choice to win the LSC title in this poll. Angelo State came in second with five first place votes and 269, followed by Abilene Christian (227), Tarleton State (206), Texas Woman's (203), Cameron (130), Midwestern State (125), Texas A&M-Kingsville (112), Texas A&M-Commerce (96), Incarnate Word (93), Eastern New Mexico (30).
Julisa Ocasio came in third in the votingfor preseason defensive honors behind Tarleton State's Nikki McNorton, and Erin Dougherty from West Texas A&M. Ocasio broke Cameron's all-time single season record in blocks last season with 598.
Last year, the Aggies made their thirteenth appearance in the LSC Tournament the first since 2007. The team will have a blend of new faces and returners this season as they look to improve on their 15-15 overall record when they step onto the court in Springfield, MO at the Drury University Tournament on August 31.
About the Poll
The league's preseason polls reflect the opinions of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region. The 2012 volleyball season begins in late August, with 11 teams set to compete. LSC teams will use a one-conference double round-robin scheduling model, in which each team plays a home and away match against each of the other teams.
