Aggie men's golf announces fall schedule
July 20, 2012 LAWTON, Okla -- Cameron University head men’s golf coach Jerry Hrnciar announced on Friday that the team will take part in five tournaments this fall. The Aggies will travel south of the Red River to Texas in four tournaments and host their annual Territory Classic in Duncan once again. This year the Aggies have a target on their back after being crowned as the 2012 Lone Star Conference champion. The fall season is important in order to build towards success in the spring.
"It is going to be very important this fall that we develop, last year we started slowly and we really didn't pick up until the end of spring, " said Hrnciar. “All of our tournaments will be against regional competition, hopefully it will prepare us and get us tougher throughout the fall."
Cameron will start the season in Abilene, Texas playing in the Coody-West Texas Intercollegiate on Sept. 10-11 an event the Aggies placed 6th in last year.
The Aggies will then travel their Junior Varsity squad to Paris, Texas on Sept. 17 for the Paris JC Invitational. This has been a yearly stop for Cameron’s underclassmen to grow and develop against other athletes in the region.
On Sept. 24-25 will be the Territory Classic hosted by Cameron University and has been a fixture on the fall schedule for several years. The Territory Classic will feature some of the top men’s golf teams in the Southwest in nearby Duncan.
“It is the only time we will be in the area, and it's big for the players and parents. We are going to have a good field made up of a few Lone Star Conference and regional schools," Hrnciar said. "We will also be fielding both our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams in the tournament."
Cameron will then play two tournaments in the month of October, the Ryan Palmer Invitational on Oct. 8-9 in Amarillo, Texas, and then the St. Mary’s Invitational on Oct. 29-30 in San Antonio, Texas.
The Aggies will wrap-up the fall season on Nov. 5-6 at the Lion Classic in Dallas, Texas. This the second consecutive season that Cameron has played the Lion Classic where they finished in 4th at the event last season.
“Everything we do this year peaks toward the NCAA Super Regional, that and nationals is what I shoot for very year. We just have to be as prepared as we can be and hopefully our fall schedule will help do that," said Hrnciar.
A full listing of colleges participating at the Territory Classic will be released at a later date along with tee-times.
