CU volleyball announces 2012 schedule
July 19, 2012 LAWTON, Okla. -- The Cameron University volleyball team and head coach Doug Tabbert announced the Aggies' 2012 schedule on Thursday."I think one the challenges is to follow up the impact we had last year because I think we certainly heightened the level of the program last year but we need to continue that momentum and this a big part of what I am looking for this year," said Tabbert.
Cameron will open the season with the Drury University Tournament at Springfield, Mo. on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 playing Lindenwood, Drury, Kentucky Wesleyan, and Newman. In the following week the Aggies will travel to Pueblo, Co. for the CSU-Pueblo Tournament on Sept. 7 and 8 where they will go against Wayland Baptist, New Haven, CSU-Pueblo, and Adams State.
"We are going to get alot of action pretty quickly, it is a diverse set of opponents and we will get a better idea where we stand with other Division II schools in country," Tabbert said. "We got many new kids coming in and we will get a look at alot of different programs in a short about of time."
Lone Star Conference action will start on Sept. 14 at Angelo State and Tarleton State on Sept. 15. The first time Cameron will hit the court at home is a three game home stand starting on Sept. 18 vs. Dallas Baptist in non-conference action with the first LSC match coming on Sept 21 where the Aggies will host Texas A&M Kingsville and Incarnate Word on Sept. 22.
The Aggies will then make their only trip to Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 25 and will play the following four matches at home on Sept. 28 against Texas Woman's and then hosts Texas A&M Commerce and St. Mary's on Sept. 29, and concludes the home stand vs. Midwestern State on Oct. 2.
Following the match with the Mustangs the team will travel for a pair of games in Abilene, Texas on Oct. 6 vs. Abilene Christian and Texas Permian Basin.
A quick two game home stand follows on Oct. 12 vs. Tarleton State and Angelo State on Oct. 13 before a grueling five match road trip from Oct. 19 through Oct. 27 highlighted by West Texas A&M on Oct. 23.
The final part of the regular season will have four out of the five games at home starting with Southeastern Oklahoma State on Oct. 30, West Texas A&M on Nov. 2, and Eastern New Mexico on Nov. 3. The final road match for the Aggies will be a quick trip across the Red River to Midwestern State on Nov. 6. To conclude the regular season the Aggies will be at home facing Abilene Christian on Nov. 9.
"It's a challenging conference and we want to build on what we did last year which was qualify for the conference tournament, I felt like we accomplished something with our finish last year." Tabbert said. "We want to keep going moving upward in the standings and building our status as a Lone Star Conference program."
The LSC Tournament will be played at the location of the regular season champion on Nov. 15-17.
Cameron qualified for the Lone Star Conference tournament for the first time in three years with an overall record of 15-15 in 2012.
