Garzon Named LSC PLayer Of The Week
March 29, 2012LAWTON, Okla. (March 29, 2012) — Cameron sophomore Gonzalo Garzon was named the Lone Star Conference’s Tennis Player of the Week, according to a news release from the conference office.
The Chilean’s workman-like performances helped propel the No. 18 Cameron men’s tennis team to a 2-0 record last week. The Aggies collected big wins over regional No. 10 St. Mary’s and nationally-ranked No. 17 St. Edward’s. Garzon picked up his first win of the week with doubles partner Thomas Peixoto. The pair dispatched Nestor Moreno and Mateo Martinez 8-4 at the No. 2 doubles spot.
The CU sophomore went on to take his singles contest at the No. 4 position, sending Jake Williams packing with a bagel and a breadstick. In the team’s match-up against regional foe St. Edward’s, Garzon secured a well-earned victory over James Rogers. The CU standout overcame the Hilltopper in a 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(7) thriller.
Garzon followed this week with a strong performance against Southeastern Oklahoma, winning his doubles match 9-7 and singles match 6-1, 6-3.
