Kirwa kicked off the season by breaking a school and course record at the Midwestern State Mustang Stampede. The Kenya native finished the 6k race in first place with an stellar time of 17:54.
In the CU-hosted Aggie Showdown, Kirwa took second place, completing the 8k in 25:04. Kirwa's many successes were not unnoticed throughout the season as he was named LSC Runner of the Week three times—more than any other runner in the conference.
Cross country coach Matt Aguero has continually praised Kirwa during the season and is more than pleased with his top runner being recognized by the conference.
"Hillary has done an outstanding job all season," Aguero said. "Not only is he the best freshmen in the conference, but he is one of the best runners in the LSC. He has a bright future ahead of him."
Next up for Kirwa and the CU cross country team is the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Meet, which will be held Nov. 5 in Wichita Falls.
